The snowy season is almost as distracting for students as invitations for fun in the sun! While tutoring students I notice their diverted attention to the windows – mesmerized by falling snow. I don’t blame them, it’s beautiful out – so we go out and enjoy it.
If your kids attend for tutoring or child care we go outside so PLEASE SEND SNOW GEAR: snow pants, winter coat, hat, mittens, boots … If you need help acquiring such items please ask for resources. To keep our highly rated status we must go outside daily –
Unless the weather is less then 10 degrees (counting windchill) we will play in the snow. However, since our winter gear gets wet we will only have one outside recess per day. We’ll still find ways to burn off energy during the other recess time period.
Since the kiddos are excited about the winter season we have transitioned from our “migration and hibernation” lessons to learning about adaptation – animals that enjoy the snow. We found lots of ways to burn off energy pretending we were arctic animals.
While younger children learned about such animals their older peers researched deeper into arctic animal survival – vs different traits and facts of animals that enjoy the heat and live in the desert. They found forms of deer live in both climates.
Since we are nearing Christmas they decided we are transitioning to deer discoveries next week. Deer activities may include reindeer games. No one will be excluded from our reindeer games – not even Rudolf – unless they want to be.
We celebrate all holidays in our programs, but respect if you choose not to participate in festivities. If you’d like to help with the festivities – please let me know. We have various holiday events planned for our youth and adult programs.
Mi Families facilitates programs for providers, parents and children. Our programs are education through recreation approached – meaning we learn through fun! We learn using various theme based curriculums – such as Mother Goose Time (see material pics posted).
Mother Goose Time and other chosen materials help teach through enriching activities and open ended projects. From math to reading, writing, social studies, science and other subjects – we use themes, such as arctic animals to excited others about learning.
