Art makes you smart. That’s why we do a lot of hands on messy activities at Adventure Academy. But arts don’t just include coloring – we paint, play with playdoh, play make-believe… we do hands on “job training” when learning about careers. We ended our community helpers month learning about jobs in the art field. We talked about actors, musicians, dancers… We talked about authors and illustrators… We used our writing and drawing skills to make Christmas cards and practiced being a mail delivery service.
Since the calendar changed to December we talked about the upcoming Christmas holiday and how some of the best gifts come from what we can do or make for another. We played Santa’s workshop and ended our week playing store and even bankers learning about the money spent on goods and services. Mother Goose Time’s “Community Helper” unit was a fun way to explore different jobs and learn about ways even the littlest hands can help others. It was a also a great unit to assess the abilities of those little helping hands.
From fine motor to gross motor activities students showed off what their hands and feet can do over these past weeks. It’s always amazing to see the developmental changes that happen just over the first few months of the school year. Adventure Academy provides infant through teen assessments and referrals, as well as providing educational and recreational activities through our child care and tutoring programs. We are currently enrolling for our 2017 programs. Adventure Academy is just one of the programs Mi Families LLC offers.
Mi Families (“my families”) offers programs for families and those who work with families in Northern Michigan (and beyond through social media). Adventure Academy is our youth program featured in this article. We have access to many curriculum options and services on and off our home based location. As we head into the last month of the 2016 we’ll be exploring the upcoming holiday and the weather as it changes to winter. If your child attends our program please make sure they come ready for outdoor winter activities!
